ARE YOU NEW TO VOLLEYBALL?

WHY VOLLEYBALL

Who can play?

Club volleyball is an avenue for players age 10 to 18 to receive advanced training and competition on local, regional and national stages. Many volleyball clubs exist both locally and nationally, most composed of multiple teams. Southwest begins their true club teams at 6th grade (U12), although younger children are able to tryout for that team. (Southwest also offers programs for younger children to begin learning volleyball skills and competing - see Youth Program)

POPULARITY:

Volleyball is the 2nd most popular sport for girls in high school with 452,808 girls on varsity level programs. It is the most popular girls' sport in 21 states.

COST:

Club Volleyball costs will range, depending on program, travel, coaching staff and more. Costs typically include practice locations; number, type, and location of tournaments; volunteer or paid staff and overhead expenses.  Some clubs may include virtually all costs in their dues. Others have additional or separate costs such as uniform fees, travel or club wear fees. The club budget details should be available to you so you can see what your money is being spent on.

Southwest fees are all-inclusive, meaning you pay one fee for the season, covering all practice time, tournament fees, insurance costs, uniforms, etc. The main additional fees will be entry fees for family members at tournaments, travel/hotel costs, and whether or not families wish to purchase additional spirit wear.

New friendships:

Bringing athletes together with similar goals from various schools makes friendships. The relationships that have been formed through practice and team play will be friendships that last a lifetime.

Tournament play:

Club tournaments are where the hard practice pays off and many memories are made. An average one-day tournament will consist of 4-5 games, while most 2-day tournaments will be 5-6 games.

EXPOSURE TO COLLEGE RECRUITERS:

College coaches regularly attend club tournaments, since they have the opportunity to watch a number of players in one location. For that reason, the majority of colleges now recruit directly from club programs. Athletes who wish to play at the next level will need to collect video footage from matches and do the work of sending highlight videos to colleges in which they are interested. Speak to your Southwest coach if you have a strong interest in playing collegiately.
